1963 -- blues performer Elmore James passes away.

1968 -- Oasis guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher is born.

1971 -- Brown Sugar (The Rolling Stones) was a hit.

1976 -- NBC tapes Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue at Colorado State University. The concert later airs under the title Hard Rain.

1978 -- Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kick off their first major arena tour in Buffalo, New York. It ends seven months and 109 cities later in Cleveland on January 1, 1979.

1979 -- Tom Petty files for bankruptcy after MCA buys his label ABC Records.

1979 -- The Who documentary The Kids Are Alright debuts in New York.

1984 -- The Clash come offstage from a concert at Michigan State University to find someone has stolen the $17,000 in box office receipts.
